Here is the history behind our school badge. Quizas Don Jose Lorenzo pueda traducirlo.
The school badge was reputedly based on the family crest/coat of arms of the Ainsworth Famil
y who back in history were the major landowners of the area and after whom the village of Ainsworth took its name.
We know that the original coat of arms contained three swords or axes depicting the fighting strength and noble qualities of the family.
However, after the English Civil War (1642-1651), having been on the side of Oliver Cromwell, things changed somewhat. Following the restoration of the monarchy the family were instructed that if they were to keep their land and possessions they would have to change their ways.
As part of this change of image the family decided to replace the swords/axes with spades to indicate their intent not to take arms up again but rather become a peaceful farming/industrial based family – hence the spades not fighting weapons as they were before.
